It is a "Guy" movie.
I can't figure out why this movie never made it big in the states. It is better then "Pulp Fiction" and I think anyone who remotely enjoyed PF, would love this movie.

A REALLY WONDERFUL READ SO FAR
I just recieved my copy of the book Lock Stock and two smoking barrels based on the film of the same name so far it is the second best book I've read since Trainspotting or The Singing Detective. Run out and buy a copy NOW!!!!!

My Mother and Me (Memory Scrapbooks for Kids)
Published in Paperback by Kids Can Press (March, 2000)
Authors: Jane Drake, Ann Love, and Scot Ritchie
Average review score:

Great for single mothers by choice!
Although nice for documenting any mother and child relationship, this is especially nice for single mothers to have a scrapbook with all the same info as a regular baby book but no reference to a father. Even the family tree page is only the Mom's relatives.

My Mother and Me
I purchased this scrapebook for my 4 year old daughter. It is a simple way to record special names, events, family information and photos for you and your daughter. I found it great, since I don't have time to prepare a "baby book". My Mother and Me allowed me to record special names, and events together with my daughter. I found the special family time a real plus.

Pfiesteria: Crossing Dark Water
Published in Paperback by Gateway (01 July, 1998)
Authors: Ritchie Shoemaker and M.D. Ritchie C. Shoemaker
Average review score:

Facinating Public Health Epic
An amazing and exciting story of a public health menace of huge scope. An incredible and tragic story of the dishonesty and slowness of the agencies we depend on to preserve and protect public health. Shoemaker's informal and upbeat style kept me turning the pages. I am saddened to see that it was privately published, and therefore does not have the backing of a major publishing house: something this work certainly deserves.

Great Book!!!
This is a great book. I could barely put it down. It was very exciting following all the different events, people, and media. The book was very informative and I now have a better understanding of the problem and its cause. What a determined doctor!!!

Reminded me of days gone by
I laughed, I cried, but more than anything else, I smiled as I read this heartwarming bildungsroman of life in a simpler age: a time when men were men, women were women, and poodle skirts and polyvinylidene chloride were all the rage. Hey kids! Want to know the future? It's... Plastics!

Totally excellent!
This is the most totally excellent book on polyvinylidene chloride I've EVER read!

Singing Family of the Cumberlands
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Kentucky (October, 1988)
Author: Jean Ritchie
Average review score:

Singing Jean - my tribute to you
I found myself laughing while reading this book, and crying, at times, too. Jean has a style of writing that makes the reader feel like he/she's there. The people come to life, and you find yourself living with them in the Kentucky Cumberlands. I don't think I've ever even been there, and this book made me homesick.

Of course, if you're looking for crime and action, this isn't the book for you. This book is about 'down home' living when chores were really chores and food was home grown. In ways, it was a simpler kind of life, but in other ways, it was a lot harder.

You won't find this information in a history book. History books always put a tint on the past, leaving out peoples' mistakes and their imperfections. This is a real family story told by a real family person. It's evident that the two most important things in the writer's life were her family and their musical life together.

On a different level, I can't tell you, as an amateur genealogist, how valuable this book is to me. Every page has stories about the people who grew up in the time and place of my kin, many of them even mentioned by name. The next time I read it, I will be gleaning information for my tree! And this is one of the few books that I will read again and again.

Good job, Jean Ritchie. Thank you for bringing the Cumberlands of Kentucky to life for your readers.

I'd give it more stars if I could.
The book is absolutely beautiful. It makes Jean Ritchie's songs more relevant, to read the words and the stories she associates with them. The mention of mining in the last chapter saddens me because I know what happened to all such communitites when the coal ran out. The book is beautiful.

Ultimate Book of Cross-Sections
Published in Hardcover by DK Publishing (October, 1996)

Inspires the not so avid reader to sit down and browse...
My 10 yr. old son brought this book home from the library and loved it. The graphics are second to none and the labels and short captioned boxes of text encouraged him to read several excerpts. The broad range of equipment covered is intriguing even to an adult. It is educational for the young reader to identify vehicles they've read about in school but never visualized. This book will be under our Christmas tree AND under the tree of a nephew who loves figuring out how things work!

Ancient an Modern Britons
Published in Paperback by Preston Collection (October, 1991)
Authors: David Mac Ritchie and David Mac Ritchie
Average review score:

Real History
I think this book is a must for all serious Historians. It was written before the systematic cover up of Africans on the world scene. The book clears up the reasons for racial tensions between the Britons and Scotts, Irish, Welsch, etc. MacRichie also goes into the origins of many European names (Scott & Irish in particular). He goes into the origins of town and state names, costoms, language, art, religion, etc. I stongly recommend both volumes one and two.

Ancient and Modern Britons
Published in Paperback by Pine Hill Pr (January, 1991)
Authors: David Mac Ritchie and David Mac Ritchie
Average review score:

The Truth is Here.
Again, MacRitchie was suberb in documenting the true history of Europe and the role of Blacks in European History. Even though I read the second volume before reading the first, the pieces started to fall into place. Without historians like MacRitchie, Graves, Davidson and Massey, Black people would forever be blind to the truth.

I wish I had this book when I was taking history classes in high school. I recommend it for students, Black History classes, retirees, even amateur historians.

Angels and Bolters: Women's Cancer Scripts
Published in Hardcover by Xlibris Corporation (March, 2002)
Author: Karen Ritchie
Average review score:

Helpful and Useful
Angels and Bolters is MUST for those touched by cancer.
Dr Ritchie gives readers comfort and support by identifying the various characters one meets such as:
"Virtual bolters may be physically present but act as if you were no longer there. They ignore you, as if you were invisible. You find yourself not invited to events, as if you didn't exist."
and the Clueless "Cancer is not really a problem. (e.g., Losing your hair/body part/health is not really a problem.)
Cancer is really a blessing. (You'll find out who your friends are. Cancer is a gift from God because you are so strong.)
You caused your cancer.(Remember that time you had a negative thought? You are not praying hard enough.)"
"Preachers are anxious to give you advice and information. They are convinced that they know what is best for you, and they go out of their way to share their answers."
Angels - "An angel knows how to listen to the answer, how to listen to what you say and to what you're not saying. You can cry with angels and you can laugh with them, sometimes both at the same time."
Travelers - "For fellow travelers, your cancer journey is their journey. Family members become fellow travelers out of necessity. Others stick with you by choice. When you have cancer, they have it too. And in some ways their journey is harder, a time of frustration and powerlessness. While you can fight the cancer, they can only observe."
This book is a terrific gift for yourself and your friends.

Anne Thackeray Ritchie: Journals and Letters (Studies in Victorian Life and Literature)
Published in Paperback by Ohio State University Press ()
Authors: Anne Thackeray Ritchie, Lillian F. Shankman, and Abigail Burnham Bloom
Average review score:

J&L provide an important source for social & literary inform
Anne Thackeray Ritchie's journals and letters provide a significant source of social and literary information for mid-Victorian to turn-of-the century historians and literary critics. As the editor and principal force behind Cornhill Magazine, Lady Ritchie knew all writers "worth knowing," and can provide intimate daily life insights into the closed world of British publishing of that era. Her writings are a particularly valuable source for feminist and art historians inasmuch as her drawing room wa
